Bright and engaging visual displays draw in customers and influence them to shop more. To keep the displays from getting dull, it’s a good idea for stores to change them out regularly. Seasonal displays are a great way to rotate display elements and keep a store’s interior graphics fresh.

Christmas Displays

Christmas is of course the classic example of seasonal visual displays. Since most retail businesses depend on December sales to finance almost the entire rest of the year, holiday displays at the end of the year are an important element of retail success. These presentations get customers into the holiday spirit, encouraging them to shop bringing more revenue to the store.

Of course Christmas isn’t the only holiday in the post-Thanksgiving season. Many stores choose to create more generic holiday visual displays in order to reach more of their customers. However the gift-giving aspect of Christmas is major reason retail outlets emphasize it over other year-end celebrations. Most displays include elements of Christmas even if they are designed to be generally festive rather than specific to Christmas.

Presentations for Other Holidays

The retail industry has found other holidays to be effective in promoting shopping among customers. These holidays fall into two types: gift holidays and sale holidays.

Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day may not be as big as the Christmas season but they are still important sources of retail revenue. Stores see an upswing in gift purchases during these times and holiday-themed visual displays remind customers of upcoming events and motivate them to spend more. These are also occasions which cause an increase in dining out and many restaurants depend on these holidays for significant revenue.

Holidays not traditionally associated with gift giving can also provide boosts to retail income. Sales tied to long weekends such as Labor Day or Presidents Day and backed with holiday-appropriate visual displays are a great way for stores to increase customer traffic.

Non-Holiday Events

Stores don’t need to wait for holidays to have specialized visual displays. Any number of events can be a reason to revitalize the store’s look and interior graphics.

Seasonal displays can be literally seasonal, changing every three months as the new season arrives. Changing colors and graphics gives the store an exciting new look and makes it easy for the store to push season-appropriate merchandise. These visual displays can be reused from year to year.

Local events can drive displays as well. Back to school and graduation displays are a staple of many stores but owners can take things further. For example, a store located near a stadium or collection of sports bars could use displays to celebrate teams making it to playoffs, bowl games or other major milestones.

Rather than creating a single look and keeping it forever, changing visual displays periodically re-engage customers who might become bored with a business’s old look.
