Google Flu Trends
Everybody knows about google.com – the most popular search engine. But have your heard about google.org ? Google.org is all about Google’s committment to dedicate 1% of the company’s effort for the benefit of communities around the world.
One of the projects that is run by Google.org is “Google Flu Trends”. The company discovered that the number of searches for “flu” keywords correlates to the degree of spread of flu in that area. The company uses server logs and IP address database to determine where the queries originate and then plot them against historical data, determining the flu spread level as Minimal, Low, Moderate, High or Intense.
